The region of Satakunta has a population of 228 000. The municipalities form three economical regions.
The highest decision-making body of the Regional Council of Satakunta is the Council. Member municipalities elect representatives to the Council for a period of four years, the time between local elections. At least one representive is appointed from each municipality.
The work of the Regional Council is supervised by the Board. The Chairman of the Board is elected by the Council every four years. The Board consists of 13 members. The composition of the Board, like that of the Council, reflects the seats of the political parties in the most recent local election. The population size of each municipality determines the number of board members.
