Regional development and planning

According to the Finnish law the Regional Councils are responsible for preparing regional development plans in cooperation with municipalities and other public and private actors.

The Regional Council of Satakunta prepares the Regional Strategic Plan by providing the general regional policy framework based on regional political preferences. Once approved, the Regional Council designs supporting implementation strategies, the  Regional Programme, together with the general Regional Land Use Plan. Finally, the Regional Council prepares the related Implementation Plan, which includes indicative funding and actors.

International cooperation is a way to strengthen the regional strategic plan and its implementation. In Europe, the Regional Council works for a more effective use of EU programmes to achieve cohesion and economic growth.
